Clean air group hosts community meeting tonight about proposed Whitewater drilling

A community forum is happening tonight to foster discussion about a major oil drilling plan currently under consideration for the Whitewater area by Norwegian firm Fram Operating LLC.

The Citizens for Clean Air and the Western Colorado Congress of Mesa County are hosting the community meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Mesa County Road & Bridge Bldg., 971 Coffman Rd.

Fram now proposes to drill up to 108 wells over four years from 12 new well pads in the northern portion of the Whitewater unit. But its proposal is contingent on approval from the Bureau of Land Management, and that agency is hearing a considerable number of comments about the Fram proposal.

In addition to discussion of the possible impacts on air, water and other environmental areas, the meeting will also be a chance for people to leave specific comments cards that will be forwarded on to the BLM for consideration in their environmental assessment.
