Collbran gets $63,286 grant to improve park

The town of Collbran has received a $63,286 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado to improve Terrell Park, the town’s only park.

Town officials plan to demolish the existing playground structures and install an eight-station play structure, a sprinkler system, fencing, recycled landscape timbers and recycled rubber playground surfacing.

The town decided to upgrade the park based on safety concerns, a lack of comparable amenities within the community and increasing demands on the park from energy development.

Six other Western Slope communities also recently received funding from Great Outdoors Colorado:

•  The town of Bayfield received $200,000 to complete the second phase of Joe Stephenson Sports Park.

•  The Eagle-Vail Metro District received $200,000 for an outdoor leisure and lap pool.

•  The city of Gunnison received $50,000 to complete a master plan for the VanTuyl Ranch.

•  The city of Cortez received $45,256 for a playground renewal project.

•  The town of Paonia received $30,400 for Paonia River Park.

•  The city of Steamboat Springs received $10,000 for a master plan for the Howelsen Hill Rodeo Facility.
