Collision near Delta kills driver
A 60-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash in Delta County which closed Colorado Highway 65 for approximately an hour.
The driver who was killed was behind the wheel of a 2000 Hyundai Accent, which was headed south as the vehicle was taking a left curve in the roadway at mile marker 5, between Delta and Cedaredge, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid. The Hyundai drifted into oncoming traffic and slammed head-on into a northbound Ford F-350, Reid said.
The Hyundai driver was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. Troopers were called at 9:27 a.m.
The pickup driver, a 35-year-old man, was transported by ambulance to Delta County Memorial Hospital. The extent of his injuries wasn’t confirmed.
Neither drugs nor alcohol was thought to be a factor, Reid said.
