Colo. Senate race target of outside money
DENVER — A watchdog group that tracks campaign spending says Colorado’s Senate contest ranks fourth in elections attracting outside spending this year.
The Sunlight Foundation says today that the contest between Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet and Republican Ken Buck has drawn some $3.4 million from advocacy groups that advertise for or against certain candidates.
The group reports that major players in the Colorado Senate race include the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which has devoted almost $1.7 million to defeating Buck. The group says that at least $1.3 million has been spent on negative ads against Bennet.
Bennet and Buck have both criticized the other over ads aired by these interest groups.
