Colo. woman charged with killing 2 kids being held
CASTLE ROCK — A Colorado mother who allegedly told police her two children were in heaven is being held without bond on murder charges.
Authorities say 41-year-old Kelli Murphy appeared in a Douglas County courtroom today on charges she killed her two children. The Denver Post reported her wrists were covered in bandages and she looked down for most of the proceeding.
She was arrested Monday on two counts of first-degree murder after police found the 6-year-old girl and 9-year-old boy dead in their Castle Rock home.
Police say Murphy had called 911 and said she was going to commit suicide. When a dispatcher asked whether there were any children home, police said Murphy replied they were in heaven.
Authorities say officers answered five or six calls to the home in recent months.
