Hopkins leads Mavs at CMU invite

Mira Hopkins led the Colorado Mesa nordic ski team with two top-five finishes in the Colorado Mesa Invitational last weekend at Skyway on Grand Mesa.

The sophomore placed third in the freestyle sprint and fifth in the 10K skate race.

CMU’s Kacie McCleary was 10th and Courtney Berg was 15th in the freestyle sprint. Berg was 11th in the 10K and Michelle Peterson was 14th.

Duncan Koehn placed ninth and teammate Tom Morrison was 18th in freestyle sprint for the CMU men. Koehn was seventh and Morrison placed 17th in the 10K.

The Mavericks compete this weekend in Crested Butte. Six Mavericks have qualified for nationals in Lake Placid, N.Y., in March.
