Colorado Springs man dies in fatal I-70 crash

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 70 in eastern Colorado that resulted in the death of a Colorado Springs man this morning.

At 11:36 a.m., a 1999 Toyota 4Runner was traveling in the left lane when the driver swerved into the center median to avoid tire debris in the roadway, according to the state patrol.

The Toyota reentered the roadway, traveled across the eastbound lanes and off the right shoulder before rolling multiple times.

The Toyota’s driver and sole occupant, a 60-year-old man from Colorado Springs who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, sustained fatal injuries, the patrol said.

The driver’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

The roadway was not closed for any extended period of time during the investigation.
