Colorado to tighten child seat requirement

AURORA — The governor is headed to Children’s Hospital in Aurora to sign a measure that tightens rules for child seats in cars.

Gov. John Hickenlooper planned to sign a bill that eliminates a loophole in car-seat requirements for larger children. That law waives the child-seat requirement in older cars with no shoulder restraints.

Supporters say the loophole puts children at risk and threatens federal funding.

The governor is also going to Colorado Springs to sign a repeal of the state software tax and a new safety measure for tow-truck drivers.
