Colorado will be among swing states, GOP leader says in urging donations

Give and give generously, Colorado GOP Chairman Ryan Call told Mesa County Republicans on Friday.

If the party is to replace President Barack Obama, keep its majority in the Colorado House, take control of the Colorado Senate and retain and expand GOP lawmakers in U.S. House districts in the state, it’s going to take money, and lots of it, Call said.

“We’ve developed our political strategy, we’ve got our ground game put together, we’ve formed a top-notch political team, and we’ve laid out our path to victory,” he said. “But we need your help. We need your willingness to sacrifice a little bit more of your time, of your talents, and, yes, your treasury. Without the resources to put bullets in the gun, it’s going to be hard to be able to deliver that message to the voters that we need to persuade to join us in this cause.”

Call said the party’s strategy will center on “Obama’s failed policies” and continued problems not only with the economy, but also the federal deficit and government spending.

He said Colorado is expected to be one of a handful of swing states that could make the difference in Obama winning a second term.

Call said Obama is on track to get the $1 billion he hopes for in the coming race. That money and the millions more from the so-called super-PACs means voters will be inundated with negative advertisements for several months before the election, he said.

“We’re more united as a party than I’ve seen us in a long, long time,” Call said. “That is so important as we’re heading into an election where so much is at stake. We have the momentum, we have the enthusiasm, and we will have the resources to beat Barack Obama in November.”
