Construction at Hanging Lake to affect parking at rest stops

Ongoing construction of a communications site to accommodate wireless carriers and enhance emergency communications in Glenwood Canyon won’t prompt any closures but will affect parking at several rest stops for several months.

Construction of a communications site at Hanging Lake Recreation Area began July 29 and won’t finish until later this year, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a news release.

Throughout construction, the public can expect fewer parking spaces, particularly during the morning hours, at Hanging Lake.

Construction also will be going on at No Name, Grizzly Creek and Bair Ranch rest areas.

In addition to accommodating wireless carriers and enhancing emergency communication, the new facilities at each of the four rest stops will allow CDOT to enhance its communication within the canyon.

The communication shelters at each site have been designed to “harmonize with the overall character and ambiance of the rest stops,” CDOT said in its release.
