Continue U.S. attorney presence on West Slope

We’re pleased to see that the U.S. Attorney for Colorado, Troy Eid, recognizes that his jurisdiction does not end where the Continental Divide begins.

Eid has beefed up the U.S. attorney’s staff in Grand Junction and secured for this area two agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives.

The result of these efforts has been increased prosecution — and convictions — of federal cases involving drugs, immigration violations, child pornography and other crimes across much of the Western Slope.

But Eid is a Republican, and the U.S. attorney for the state serves at the behest of the president.

We hope whoever Barack Obama eventually appoints to replace Eid will continue the statewide approach to his office that Eid has started.
