Cops find no truth to reports of missing Fla. girl being seen in GJ
Leads that a 5-year-old girl reported missing from Florida had been spotted locally turned out to be unfounded, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.
Grand Junction officers launched a massive investigation Monday morning after several employees at Mesa Mall said they saw Haleigh Cummings, a child who was abducted from the bed of her father’s Satsuma, Florida home on Feb. 9.
Local police determined that the child who was seen with a woman at the mall was not Haleigh Cummings, police said.
“(Grand Junction Police Department) officers immediately began collecting information, pictures and video of the child and the woman ...” according to a press release. “Investigators also canvassed area hotels in an effort to locate the woman and the child; however neither has been found.”
Investigators were working with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office in Florida on the case, police said.
According to Fox News, police there are following up on 1,600 leads in the case.
Grand Junction Police officers were seen pulling over and questioning the drivers of Subaru cars on Monday night. One driver, who was asked to give his Social Security number, was told that police were seeking the missing girl.
