Cops looking for hit-and-run driver

The Colorado State Patrol is looking for the driver of a car that struck a pedestrian in Clifton this morning and fled the scene.

A Mesa County sheriff’s deputy found 29-year-old Michael W. Milbourn of Clifton laying on the shoulder of E 1/2 Road at Verano Street around 3 a.m., State Patrol Trooper James Womack said. Milbourn suffered a broken right leg and several lacerations on his head and was covered with blood when the deputy discovered him. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.

“He initially told the deputy he was crossing the street and his leg went numb. At that point he didn’t realize he had been hit,” said Womack, who estimated Milbourn was hit between 1:45 a.m. and 2:45 a.m.

Womack said a black side mirror belonging to a Ford - likely a sedan - was found at the accident scene. He said he doesn’t have any other information about the vehicle, other than it was probably westbound on E 1/2 Road when it struck Milbourn.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the State Patrol at 970-249-4392.
