Coroner identifies man killed in Redlands accident
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office today identified a man who was killed after being struck by a minivan while walking across Broadway on New Year’s Day.
John Timony, 68, of Grand Junction, was crossing the road north to south, near Greenwood Dr., just before 6 p.m. Tuesday when he was hit by an eastbound Chevy Uplander. The coroner’s office said an autopsy showed Timony had a blood-alcohol level of .075 percent.
Timony died from blunt-force trauma in what has been ruled an accident.
The minivan driver, Harold Grosse, 73, of Grand Junction, was driving at an estimated 35 mph at the time of the collision, State Trooper Josh Lewis said. The stretch of road has a posted limit of 40 mph.
Nobody has been charged.
