Coroner releases homicide victim’s full name

Willard Michael “Mike” Bobbitt

Willard Michael “Mike” Bobbitt, 36, was the victim of Wednesday’s homicide in Grand Junction, the Mesa County Coroner’s Office said in a news release.

Bobbitt’s last known residence was in Montrose.

The coroner’s office, however, did not release cause of death, “in order to not compromise the successful investigation and the apprehension of a suspect,” the release said. Grand Junction police Thursday confirmed only the victim’s first name and a photo, saying the limited information release was an attempt to generate leads.

Bobbitt’s body was discovered by a passerby around 5:30 p.m., in the Colorado River underneath the Fifth Street bridge.
