Coroner releases IDs in wreck, drowning
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office on Friday released the names of two people who died Thursday in unrelated incidents.
Nicholas J. Jacobson, 26, of Grand Junction, died Thursday while driving his Honda motorcycle east on North Avenue near the Interstate 70 Business Loop.
An accident occurred when Jacobson attempted to make a left turn onto the frontage road along the business loop, and he was struck by a Jeep Cherokee, according to the Grand Junction Police Department. A woman on the motorcycle was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, but her identification and condition were not released.
Jacobson suffered multiple injuries in the crash, the coroner’s report said, adding he was wearing a helmet, and alcohol was not a factor. No one in the Cherokee was injured.
The man who drowned in shallow water Thursday while fishing with his family at Vega Reservoir was Ivan C. Walz II, a 67-year-old Grand Junction resident, the Coroner’s Office said.
A forensic examination showed Walz had bite marks on his tongue, which often are associated with seizures, the report said. He did not have any other injuries or medical conditions that would account for his falling into the water, the report said.
Both deaths were listed as accidents.
