Council OKs funding for spring cleanup
Grand Junction’s spring cleanup costs are steep, so you might as well take advantage.
Grand Junction City Councilors approved spending on the annual cleanup during their meeting Wednesday night.
Every year, the city offers residents the opportunity to place piles of garbage and yard clippings in the street in front of homes for free pickup.
To get the job done in two weeks’ time, the city must contract with local dump truck services. This year, the city is contracting with Upland Companies of Grand Junction for $65,000 at an estimated $75 per hour for 867 hours. Total costs of the cleanup including city labor, advertising the cleanup, landfill costs and renting the skid loaders are estimated at $249,810.
The Spring Cleanup Program takes place between April 15 and April 27. Crews will remove garbage the first week in areas north of North Avenue and remove garbage in areas south of North Avenue the second week.
