County OKs 416-acre residential community for Gateway Canyons

Mesa County commissioners this morning unanimously approved a concept plan for a 416-acre residential community for Gateway Canyons Resort, a significant expansion that will nearly triple the resort’s footprint.

Billed as Experius Community at Gateway Canyons, the project will feature 340 homes, a boutique hotel or bed and breakfast, a winery, a club house or recreation center, an observatory, a greenhouse and other amenities. The development would be built east of the current resort on the east side of Colorado Highway 141.

The community would be constructed in seven phases over a 30-year period, although Gateway Canyons Resort owner John Hendricks told commissioners he hopes to build more quickly than that.

“We’re confident this is a very special part of America that people are going to discover,” Hendricks said.
