County planning, airport panels have openings

Two seats are available on two influential boards and commissions, and Mesa County is hoping citizens with compatible backgrounds and an inclination toward public service will apply.

The first vacancy is on the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority, which is charged with setting policy and overseeing airport operations. The four-year term is one of seven seats, and Mesa County appoints three of the seven members.

The board meets on the third Tuesday of each month, with additional committee meetings as necessary.

Much of what the board does is make sure the airport is operating in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including the authority’s bylaws, Colorado’s Public Airport Authority Law and federal aviation regulations.

The second vacancy is on the county’s Planning Commission, for a three-year term. The commission — made up of seven members and three alternates — reviews general land use matters and guides Mesa County commissioners in making decisions based on the county’s Land Development Code.

The county recommends candidates have a background or general knowledge of zoning and land use matters.

The application deadline for each vacancy is Nov. 1.
