Crash closes store a few days

A 59-year-old woman was not seriously injured Sunday when the Toyota she was driving crashed into a shoe store, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Shortly before noon, police and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to Payless Shoe Source, 2883 North Ave., after the vehicle went through the front windows, stopping inside the store.

No one was injured inside the store, but the business will be closed until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, an employee said Sunday evening.

Police said the woman, who was not identified, was trying to park in front of Payless when she hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, sending the car into the store.

She was cited for careless driving, the Police Department said.

The driver was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital and was released Sunday.

The estimate on the damage caused to Payless was not known Sunday, the police said.
