Crash near Olathe kills 10-year-old

Alcohol may have been a factor in a two-vehicle crash near Olathe that killed a 10-year-old child Sunday afternoon, according to Colorado State Patrol dispatch.

Two additional children were airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital, and three adults were taken to Montrose Memorial Hospital.

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, the conditions of the injured and the seriousness of their injuries were unknown.

The crash happened at the intersection of Colorado Highway 348 and 5400 Road, between Olathe and Delta.

Initial reports indicated that the driver of a Chevy passenger car ran a stop sign and was broadsided by another vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban.

It was not clear who was in which vehicle.

The crash was reported around 3 p.m.

According to State Patrol dispatch, alcohol consumption by both drivers is “suspected to be involved.”
