Crawford man killed in possible DUI crash

Alcohol is a suspected factor and charges are pending after an accident Friday that killed one man and injured another near Crawford, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

William Studebaker, 61, of Crawford was pronounced dead after authorities were called out around 1:30 a.m. on a reported single-vehicle accident on Colorado Highway 92, about five miles south of Crawford.

Studebaker was a passenger in a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 39-year-old Timothy Peterson, who was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with unknown injuries.

Troopers said the Cherokee careened off the roadway at mile marker 39, rolled at least twice and slammed into a nearby irrigation ditch.

The vehicle came to a rest on its wheels in the ditch, which was full of water.

Peterson was listed in good condition Friday afternoon at St. Mary’s.
