D51 community meeting tonight at GJHS
The second in a series of four community meetings hosted by School District 51 will take place at 6 tonight in the Grand Junction High School library.
The district launched the concept last fall of hosting four meetings per school year where parents and community members could ask district executives questions about local education, air grievances about school issues, or offer thoughts about what school programs or instruction they would like to change or keep the same.
The meetings were supposed to take place on a quarterly basis but, because of scheduling conflicts at school buildings, there is a nearly five-month gap between the first meeting in September in Fruita and tonight’s meeting. The third meeting is scheduled for March 13 at Grand Mesa Middle School and the final meeting of 2012–13 will take place April 10 at Palisade High School. Both meetings will start at 6 p.m.
Anyone can attend the meetings and there is no specific agenda. People can come for the whole meeting or come in and out at different points. The length of the meeting is not set but the last meeting lasted nearly three hours.
