DA to reveal results of his GarCo sheriff investigation

Ninth Judicial District Attorney Martin Beeson plans today to announce the results of an investigation into allegations of wrongdoing by Garfield County Sheriff Lou Vallario.

Beeson has called a news conference to discuss the investigation, which was prompted by an anonymous e-mail sent to two county commissioners and to newspaper reporters. County commissioners referred the e-mail to Beeson because some of the allegations, if true, could constitute misuse of public funds.

Vallario has denied any wrongdoing in the matter, although the e-mail prompted his acknowledgement that he is living with a female Sheriff’s Department employee.

The relationship has prompted allegations of favoritism by Vallario and the employee, a jail supervisor, in their management of jail employees. But Vallario says the allegations are coming from disgruntled employees who don’t like the changes he is making in how the jail is run.
