Dance to be showcased at college

Here are a few additional upcoming performances at Mesa State College:

• Showing off “creativity, discovery, research, innovation and/or entrepreneurship,” the second annual Mesa State College Student Showcase will be from 3–5 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the College Center.

More than 100 students from a number of academic departments will participate in the showcase with exhibits, demonstrations presentations and performances of student work from a number of academic departments.

The event is free.

• The Mesa State College Symphony Orchestra will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Robinson Theatre in the Moss Performing Arts Center.

The concert is a benefit for the Western Slope Center for Children and among the pieces on the program is “Mr. Smith’s Composition” by Gregory Smith.

In the piece, a “narrator depicts the composer and the process he follows to create his piece,” a news release said. “Through this process he teaches the audience the different instruments of the orchestra, form and musical styles.”

Tickets cost $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students and children. For tickets and information, call 248-1604.



A fervor for dance and entertainment will be on display at Mesa State College’s annual spring dance programs.

The dancers in “Spring into Dance” will offer the audience “thought-provoking modern works to entertaining tap pieces, ballet, jazz and hip hop,” a news release said.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Robinson Theatre in Mesa State’s Moss Performing Arts Center, 1231 N. 12th St.

Dance pieces created by student choreographers, college faculty and guest choreographers will be performed.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 seniors and $6 students.
