Danish carbon-neutral advocate to speak

A man hailed for leading an effort to make a Denmark island carbon-neutral will be speaking in Glenwood Springs and Aspen today.

Søren Hermansen’s efforts led Time magazine to name him one of its 2008 “Heroes of the Environment.”

Hermansen led Samsø, an island of 4,100 people west of Copenhagen, in pursuing use of wind and solar energy and straw-fired central furnaces.

He will appear from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, 100 Puppy Smith St., Aspen, and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Glenwood Springs Community Center, 100 Wulfsohn Road.

His free local appearances are hosted by Clean Energy Economy for the Region (CLEER).
