Day Spa and Salon to close Friday
The last day for the Day Spa and Salon in the former Grand Junction Athletic Club building will be Friday, unless a buyer emerges to keep it in its familiar location off Patterson Road.
“There are people who are interested in buying the inventory and working with the landlord to keep it open” at 2515 Foresight Circle, day spa and salon owner Vicky Thurlow said Tuesday.
She and the 35 people who work there as manicurists, aesthetists, massage therapists and in other areas are hoping, as is she, a buyer will keep the day spa and salon where it is, Thurlow said.
In any event, she said, anyone with a gift certificate from the day spa and salon that was issued March 5 or later can redeem it at select locations in Grand Junction.
Several spas and salons have shown interest in honoring the certificates, Thurlow said.
Holders of the certificates issued March 5 or later, when Thurlow took over ownership of the athletic club, will be contacted about their options.
She can do nothing about certificates issued by the previous ownership, Grand Junction Athletic Club Inc., Thurlow said.
Thurlow reclaimed the athletic club late last year after the owner to whom she sold the same business five years ago failed to pay rent to the building owner.
Thurlow last month closed the athletic club and moved equipment to a new fitness center, The Edge, inside the Colorado Printing Co. building, 2800 Printers Way.
The Edge is doing well, Thurlow said. She offered to double the length of memberships for people who switched from the athletic club to The Edge, and “quite a few” took her up on the offer, she said.
