Delta Hospital hires CEO

The acting chief executive officer of Delta County Memorial Hospital is set to permanently take over the job next week.

David Lane, president of the hospital’s board of directors, said the board voted Nov. 19 to appoint Jason Cleckler to the hospital’s top job. Lane delivered a contract to Cleckler Friday and expects Cleckler to sign the contract sometime next week, he said.

Cleckler took over as acting chief executive officer in August following the departure of former CEO John Mitchell. The board hired Mitchell on a 10-month contract in October 2011 and dismissed him from the job at the end of the contract Aug. 1, according to Delta County Memorial marketing and education manager Patti Kalahar.

The board conducted a year-long search to find Mitchell after former chief executive officer Tom Mingen retired from the hospital, Kalahar said. This time, there was no search; the board simply decided it was pleased with Cleckler’s performance and wanted him for the job.

A search is going on, however, to replace Cleckler in his former position as chief clinical officer at the hospital.

Lane said Cleckler’s “knowledge of the medical profession” convinced him to hire Cleckler. He added Mitchell “was a very competent individual,” but he “wanted to take hospital in a different direction than the board wanted to go.”

That direction, according to Lane, includes expansion of services and more physicians at Delta County Memorial. He added the hospital has scored well on four different exams this year and he wants the hospital to continue to earn high marks for quality of care.
