Delta police investigating man’s death

Delta police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the vicinity of the Gunnison River Monday morning.

Police spokeswoman Jamie Head said in news release this morning that officers were dispatched around 7:40 a.m. Monday on a report of a body being found. The body was located near U.S. Highway 50 and Colorado Highway 92.

Head said the man’s identity is unknown and the cause of death is under investigation pending autopsy results.

The man is described as being between 35 and 45 years old, 5-foot-10, 170 to 190 pounds, with auburn-colored facial hair and medium- to short-length, semi-curly brown and gray hair. He has multiple tattoos, including one on his left forearm of praying hands in black ink and one on his upper left chest of a red cross with a green four-leaf clover in the center. He was wearing an oak-leaf camouflage jacket in brown tones, a gray hooded sweat shirt and blue denim pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Delta police Detective Sgt. Brad Lamb at 970-874-7676 or the Delta County Coroner’s Office at 970-874-5918.
