Delta School Board picks interim superintendent

The Delta County School District 50 School Board decided Friday to hire Jerre Doss as its interim superintendent, effective Feb. 10.

Board members expect to review a contract for Doss at their next public meeting, Feb. 7. Doss is a Cedaredge native who served as superintendent of Springfield School District RE-4 and Limon School District Re-4j and served as interim superintendent for Deer Trail School District 26J. He has been a teacher and principal at various Colorado schools and town manager for Cedaredge and Orchard City.

Current Delta superintendent Mike McMillan submitted a letter of resignation last week. The board voted 4–1 on Jan. 19 to accept his resignation.

Board member Tammy Smith cast the lone dissenting vote. She said the board met with McMillan twice to discuss how he and the board could better get along. Smith said the board met again this month in a private session and decided to ask McMillan to resign.

McMillan announced he would retire in 2010 but changed his mind.

Delta School Board members plan to select a permanent replacement for McMillan by the end of the current school year, according to the news release, and the district hired the Colorado Association of School Boards to help search for a new superintendent.
