Delta County woman shot, wounded; man arrested

John Jacob Wool

A woman was shot in the abdomen, and a man was in police custody Tuesday night after a shooting in rural Delta County, according to Undersheriff Mark Taylor of the Delta County Sheriff’s Department

The woman was conscious and speaking to authorities before she was taken by helicopter to St. Mary’s Hospital, Taylor said.

Police said today that a 66-year-old female had been shot with a .410 shotgun. The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim’s husband and another male subject were involved in an altercation.

Police-radio traffic Tuesday night indicated the shooting occurred at 2725 Escalante Canyon Road.

The male suspect, identified John Jacob Wool, was booked into the Delta County Jail.

Police say Wood fired one round from his vehicle after he had been sprayed with bear pepper spray by the victim’s husband.  The altercation apparently occurred after the two parties passed each other on the roadway and stopped.
