Delta father facing 16 years in 2008 death of 5-month-old

Daven Beck

DELTA — A little more than two years after his infant daughter’s death, Daven Beck agreed to plead no contest to a charge of child abuse resulting in death.

Beck, 23, entered the plea Tuesday, and the stipulations of the plea agreement acknowledged sufficient facts in the case likely would lead to a conviction.

The plea deal also calls for a 16-year prison sentence and dismissal by the 7th Judicial District Attorney’s Office of a pair of charges: first-degree murder of a child under 12 and child abuse causing bodily injury.

Court records said Beck took his 5-month-old daughter, Cady, to a Delta clinic on Dec. 22, 2008, and shortly thereafter she was admitted to the emergency room at Delta Memorial Hospital.

The child was airlifted to a Denver hospital, where she died the next day. The cause of death was deemed to be blunt-force trauma to the head and neck areas.

Sentencing for Beck is scheduled Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
