Deputies hunt person who shot
 dog in the head

Bella, a yellow Labrador, suffered a gunshot wound to the head after disappearing from her owner’s house in Montrose. The dog is on the mend and has been reunited with her owners. The Montrose Police Department is looking for the person who shot her.

A dog was shot in the head sometime between Sunday and Tuesday but lived, and now the Montrose County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

The 2-year-old yellow Labrador retriever named Bella was found Tuesday after crawling out of canal in Olathe near Amber and 60.00 roads. Deputies took the dog to a veterinarian, where it was discovered she’d sustained a small-caliber gunshot wound to the head, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The dog was kept overnight for observation and survived without vision loss or other impairments. The dog’s owners were found and told deputies that she’d run away Sunday. Bella and her owners were reunited Wednesday, Montrose County spokeswoman Katie Yergensen said.

“She’s a lucky dog. ... I think hopefully it’s a happy ending at this point,” Yergensen said.
