DNA tests fail to prove wolf presence on De Beque ranch

DNA tests on scat samples collected earlier this year on the High Lonesome Ranch did not prove positive for wolf DNA, according to researchers from the Robert Wayne Lab at UCLA.

Many of the samples were too degraded to offer good results, the lab report said, while some of the samples were of coyote origin.

Ranch chairman and CEO, Paul R. Vahldiek, Jr., said research will continue to investigate a die-off of aspen groves on his land.
