Dogs find human remains in Utah

Utah law enforcement officials are studying skeletal remains and pieces of clothing found in a wash near Interstate 70.

Grand County officials who announced the find did not say to whom the remains might have belonged. Officials there, however, have sought Lance Leeroy Arellano in connection with the shooting of Utah State Parks Ranger Brody Young in November.

Young was seriously wounded in the shooting and searchers who combed through eastern Utah’s rugged backcountry failed to find the man they suspected in the shooting, Arellano.

A man driving along I-70 on April 16 found a bone while walking his dog through a wash, the Grand County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The man took the bone to Montrose and turned in the bone to officials there.

Utah officials were summoned to the area of the find, where a team of dogs and handlers found more remains..

The remains are under study by the Utah State Medical Examiners Office.
