National “Take Your Dog To Work Day” is Friday but the employees and their pets at Cobb & Associates are gearing-up for an early celebration.

The crew plans to bring six dogs to work with them on Thursday, as the marketing company is closed on Fridays, to help gather food and donations for Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

This is the first time Cobb & Associates has celebrated the holiday but hope to make it an annual event.

“We all love our dogs and we’d like it to be a dog-friendly office,” said Miranda Ashman, project manager, as she lifted her Chihuahua-Greyhound Lupe onto her desk for pictures.

Thursday’s events include meeting and greeting other canine in the public, frequent walks, nap time, and a doggy ice cream social sponsored by Chow Down Pet Supplies, 2518 Broadway.

The dog’s activities will be posted to the company’s Facebook page and website throughout the day.

“The idea of an official ‘dog day’ definately appealed to us, but we wanted to do more than just have a fun day at the office for our own dogs — we also want to help local dogs in need,” said Teri Cavanagh, CEO of the company.

Roice-Hurst Humane Society has provided a wish list for those wanting to donate to the drive. Those items include Iams or Purina dog food, collars, leashes, treats, toys for large dogs, and unopened cleaning supplies such as bleach or laundry detergent.

Donations will be accepted during business hours Thursday in the Cobb & Associates lobby at 521 Rood Ave. With each donation, names will be entered into a drawing for a $100 doggie gift basket.

“It’s just fun,” Ashman said, “I think people like bringing their dogs to work with them because it makes such a relaxed atmosphere.”
