Downtown fire investigated

The Grand Junction Fire Department is investigating a small fire this morning which damaged the exterior of an under-construction hotel on Main Street.

Firefighters were called just before 7 a.m. and found trash burning in a space between the east side of Consign Design, 234 Main St., and the under-construction Marriott hotel at 236 Main St. Grand Junction Fire Captain Eric Cox said various items of wood and insulation associated with the build project were apparently burned.

The fire department sent seven units to the scene and reported the fire under control within 15 minutes.

Damage estimates were not immediately available and a cause wasn’t known as of late morning.
