Downtown home undergoing construction damaged

A home undergoing construction in the 100 block of South 11th Street was damaged Thursday night or early Friday, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

A construction worker arrived at the home about 8 a.m. Friday and saw that glass on the house’s front door had been broken, according to an incident report. A basement window was broken and a door that had been locked was found ajar inside the home.

The only damage inside the home was texture paint sprayed on a door and on a table saw in a hallway. A can of texture paint had been in the home Thursday, according to the incident report, but the can was not found after the incident.

A police officer investigated a tip that a person had been fired from the construction project on Tuesday, but the person was checked into Mesa County Alternative Sentencing when the incident would have occurred. There were no other leads. If a person or people were arrested in connection with the incident, they could face second-degree burglary and criminal mischief charges.
