Driver rolls car on I-70

A car rests in the median on eastbound Interstate 70 at the Clifton interchange.

A Clifton man was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in serious condition Thursday afternoon after rolling his car at eastbound mile marker 37 on Interstate 70.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, the man, who is in his mid-30s, was driving a maroon 2004 Kia sedan east at 3:23 p.m. when he hit a cement barrier and his car rolled and landed in the median. The man was the car’s only occupant, said Trooper Josh Lewis.

The car came to rest about 50 yards east of the exit 37 overpass, with a trail of debris strewn between the car and the overpass. That portion of I-70 eastbound was closed for about half an hour and traffic was temporarily diverted onto the I-70 Business Loop.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Program staff responded to the man’s Clifton home, where his children were gathered.

The cause of the crash hadn’t been determined Tuesday night and the man’s name wasn’t being released.
