Driver killed in rollover crash near parkway

A 37-year-old Mesa County man was killed early Friday after losing control of and rolling his pickup near D Road and Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction police said.

Jonathan Hunt was driving a 1997 Dodge Dakota east on D Road toward the parkway intersection around 2 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The pickup went straight through the westbound lanes off the left side of the road. The truck hit several large boulders and rolled once, police said.

Hunt died at the scene.

Another man in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, police said. Police have not released the name of the passenger.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office said the cause of Hunt’s death was multiple injuries, and the manner of death an accident. The Coroner’s Office also said drinking contributed to the crash.

The accident led police to close Riverside Parkway most of the morning while officers investigated the wreck.
