Driver who crashed car into building is ticketed

The Grand Junction Police Department said the driver who crashed his car Thursday into a building owned by St. Mary’s Hospital apparently had a medical condition.

Grant Odelberg, 23, was ticketed on suspicion of careless driving after the Grand Junction man allegedly rear-ended a sport utility vehicle, drove over a sidewalk, side-swiped a tree and hit the building at Seventh Street and Wellington Avenue on Thursday, the department said.

Odelberg, who was driving a Toyota Camry, suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to police spokeswoman Kate Porras, but she could not provide details about the apparent medical condition contributing to the accident.

The driver of the SUV, Josette Henry, 68, of Grand Junction, also suffered minor injuries.

The accident caused a gas leak that resulted in the evacuation of about a dozen people from the building.

Gas has since been shut off to the building.
