Easement will become part of Riverfront Trail
A mile-and-a-half-long easement that will become part of the Riverfront Trail was ceded to Mesa County this week.
The stretch of land is directly north of the Colorado River near 33 Road and comes from Ron and Kathleen Arnett, 3306 D 1/2 Road.
The land was placed in a conservation easement secured by the Mesa Land Trust in 2005 as part of the buffer zone between Grand Junction and Palisade. The Mesa County Commission unanimously accepted the easement Monday.
Mesa County now will be charged with building the trail through the property and maintaining the area.
“It was the intent of the parties that this easement would transfer to Mesa County for its ultimate construction and maintenance,” according to the commission’s agenda item.
“Per a condition of the easement, construction of the trail will not occur until after February.”
The Riverfront Trail when completed will be 28 miles long and stretch from Palisade to Fruita.
