Eckert church plans fundraiser Music for a Sunday Afternoon

The oldest and only church within the Eckert town limits needs a face-lift, and church members think they have found a fun way to make that happen.

An event and fundraiser titled Music for a Sunday Afternoon will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, at Eckert Presbyterian Church, 13025 Colorado Highway 65.

Church members and talented musicians from the Cedaredge, Hotchkiss, Paonia and Delta areas will come together for the performance of Broadway tunes, oldies, country songs, spirituals and more.

The musicians are donating their time and talents to the event to help raise money for the church’s restoration fund.

More than $300,000 is needed to improve the church building, which was built in 1913.

Church secretary Linda Bjork said the building needs a new roof, and members want to refurbish the original stain glass windows. Other repairs and improvements also are needed, she said.

All tickets to the event are $10, but space is limited to 150 people. Reservations can be made by calling 835-3441 or e-mailing .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
