Elderly driver hits child, then leaves scene

A 4-year-old boy was struck by a car around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 1100 block of Colorado Avenue, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

The child received “relatively minor injuries,” said Kate Porras, spokeswoman for the police.

According to police, mother and son were crossing in the middle of the block, with the child leading the way.

A slow-moving car hit the child, causing minor cuts and bruises.

The driver of the car was an elderly woman. She stopped and checked on the child, then got back in her car and drove away, Porras said.

Witnesses were able to supply police with a license plate number and police are seeking the driver.

According to state law, anyone involved in an accident must remain at the scene until law enforcement arrives.
