Elderly woman seriously injured in Patterson accident

A three vehicle accident at the intersection of 28 and Patterson roads has sent at least two people to area hospitals and prompted police to close the intersection. Around noon an 83-year-old woman, driving a gray sedan, attempted to turn left from 28 Road onto Patterson Road when her car was struck a pickup.

An 83-year-old woman was sent to a hospital with serious injuries after being involved in a three-vehicle crash at about noon Friday.

Viola Hartsough attempted to make a left turn from Patterson Road onto 28 Road when her car struck a pickup, and both vehicles spun in a full circle, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

A van that was heading eastbound on Patterson was struck while the two vehicles spun. Hartsough had to be extricated from her vehicle. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police used laser technology to reconstruct the crash scene, police said.
