Elections director Reiner plans clerk run

Mesa County Elections Director Sheila Reiner next year will run to succeed her boss, Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Janice Rich, she confirmed Monday.

“I want to continue to serve my community on a larger scale than I have been serving them for the last eight years,” the longtime elections chief said.

Reiner, 38, said she plans to make the need to fight unfunded mandates from the state Legislature her top priority during the campaign.

Reiner, a Republican, said she would be “a strong and steady voice for small- and medium-sized counties.”

No Democrats have announced their plans to run to replace the term-limited Rich, who was elected to her second four-year term in 2006.

Reiner said she is a graduate of the Elections Center and Auburn University’s program for election officials.
