ELN: McCain confident in presidental race.
Bucking tradition, and hoping to win as many votes as possible right up to the final hour, Republican presidential candidate John McCain made a campaign stop in Grand Junction on Election Day as part of a last-ditch swing through a number of Western states.
McCain told a crowd of thousands at West Star Aviation that he would win the 2008 election.
”I feel the momentum. I feel it. You feel it, and we’re going to win this election,” McCain said. “We’re going to win it. And we’re going to win it right here in the state of Colorado.”
The Arizona senator was accompanied by U.S. Sens. Lindsay Graham, R-S.C., and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn.
He said Colorado Republicans and their peers across the country needed to work hard in the roughly six hours left before the polls close to help him get elected.
“I’m an American, and I choose to fight,” McCain said. “Don’t give up hope.”
McCain’s speech, which regularly prompted cheers from the crowd, was one of his last stops before he headed to Arizona to watch the election results come in.
