Empty Bowls fundraiser slated for Saturday

Having a full plate of food at the end of the day is something to which most of us are accustomed.

The 17th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser is a simple reminder that in the world, the nation and the Grand Valley, there are many whose plate, or bowl, is empty at the end of the day.

Hosted by Grand Valley Catholic Outreach, the Empty Bowls meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Soup Kitchen, 245 S. First St.

Guests are invited to a meal of soup, bread and dessert. The soup will be served in handmade pottery bowls crafted by local potters and members of the community, and guests are asked to keep their bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.

Tickets to the meal are $25 and can be purchased at City Market stores, select area churches and at Catholic Outreach.

Call 241-3658 for information.
