Enstrom’s launches national recipe contest
Grand Junction bakers have been adding Enstrom’s Almond Toffee to all sorts of sweet treats since the candy store opened 50 years ago.
They sprinkle crumbled bits of toffee into cakes, ice cream and pies. Many of the recipes have become family favorites and now Enstrom’s wants customers to share those traditions with fans of their Facebook page for a chance to win free toffee and “World Famous” notoriety.
The company launched “The Great Enstrom’s Almond Toffee Contest” nationwide at http://www.facebook.com/enstroms. The contest ends June 15 and the winner will receive a $500 Enstrom’s gift card and a free five pound box of toffee. Plus, the winning recipe will be included in thousands of boxes of candy that are shipped worldwide.
Funny though, so far not many locals have entered recipes in to the contest.
The current entries, as of Wednesday afternoon, include confectionary delights such as trifles, ice cream cups and coconut toffee parfaits. Many of the recipes are quite simple and all sound good.
One entry by Suzanne Daniels, suggest that Enstrom’s Almond Toffee is best left alone and served on a pretty plate.
“We really wanted to reach out younger customers through the social networking site,” said co-owner Jamee Enstrom Simons. Plus, the company has a vast list of old recipes which use the candy, but wanted to find some new ones in honor of their 50th anniversary.
After the entry deadline, Simons said the Enstrom’s staff will recreate and try the recipes. A panel of judges will decide on the top five contestants and the final vote will be left to the Enstrom’s Facebook fans.
“So far the response has been really good and it’s fun,” Simons said.
