Corn maze, pumpkin patch open

The DeVries Corn Maze is open.

The maze is along U.S. Highway 50 between mile markers 85 and 86, about three miles south of Olathe and seven miles north of Montrose, at the DeVries Fruit & Veggie Roadside Stand. The maze is approximately 20 acres. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through Halloween. Night mazes are available Fridays and Saturdays in October and on Halloween from 7–10 p.m. Take a flashlight for the night maze.

Admission to the daytime corn maze is $7 for adults, $6, for seniors and $5 for children. Children younger than 4 get in free. Family of four admission is $22. Admission to any night maze is $7.50 for ages older than 4. Group rates (15 or more people) are available with reservations made at least a week in advance.

The Great Pumpkin Patch also is open with pumpkins costing $5 each, with discounts for five pumpkins or more.

The 11th annual Punkin’ Chunkin’ fall event and festival, a benefit for the Olathe Fire Department, will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. There will be games, food booths, punkin’ chunkin’, raffles, the corn maze, pumpkin patch, vendors, door prizes and more. A night maze will be offered at dark, along with a live band.

Yard sale benefits The Art Center

Altrusa will have its annual yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at The Art Center, 1803 N. Seventh St.

The sale, originally scheduled for last month, was postponed to Saturday because of rainy weather.

A portion of the proceeds from sales will be donated to The Art Center.

Studio plans watercolor workshop

Landscapes in Watercolor, a one-day workshop with Pam McLaughlin, will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Watercolor Dogs Art Studio, 145 N. Mesa St., in Fruita.

Watercolor techniques for skies, clouds, mountains, trees, flowers and more will be explored during the workshop. Cost is $75 with all supplies included.

Haunted house opens Friday, Oct. 4

Express Allstars Trail of Terror Haunted House will feature 10,000 square feet and 30 rooms of horror and will open Friday, Oct. 4, at 721 S. Seventh St.

Admission is $12.

Hours are 7 p.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturday in October, plus Thursdays, Oct. 10 and Oct. 24.

The haunted house also will be open from 7–10 p.m. daily the week of Halloween.
